Finding Our ‘Why’ For Getting Active

Let’s connect with movement

Hey Parents,

Sitting comfortably?

It’s time to talk about our feelings.

Let’s get deep and explore our relationship with movement.

Physical literacy refers to how positive and meaningful our relationship with movement and physical activity is.

It’s our commitment to movement and physical activity. It is our ‘WHY’ of being active.

Why we choose to be active is an accumulation of all our previous experiences of physical activity. Unsurprisingly, the more positive experiences we have ie those that offer enjoyment, value and meaning, the more we will be encouraged to be active in the future.

The same applies to our children.

Here’s 3 ways we can help them find their ‘WHY’?

  1. Don’t neglect quality for quantity – one good club that meets their needs is better than lots of clubs that just keep them busy.
  2. Find activities that build strong connections because they are fun! If they’re not smiling, they’re probably in the wrong place.
  3. Choose activities that make them feel good because they are appropriate to them. These might be different to those that make you feel good watching them.

Finally ask yourself this, are they dragging you to sessions or are you dragging them?
